サッカーから野球へ

私は愛知県生まれの愛知県育ちである。生まれ育った場所は名古屋市ではなく、三河地方になる。

私の街はサッカーで有名であり、昔は高校サッカーで全国優勝したほどである。赤色の斜めの

たすきは、ある程度の年齢の人には有名である。

 

そんな街には小学校低学年から通えるサッカースクールがあった。私の近所で高校サッカーで

インターハイに出場してサッカースクールで先生をしている人がいることもあり、幼い頃は

サッカーをしていた。

しかし、私の父親は大の中日ファンであり、とにかく野球が好きであった。本人も学生時代は

野球部に所属していたらしい。また、祖父も野球が好きで、中日時代の田尾選手のファンであった。

 

そんな状況もあり小学四年になったときに地元の少年野球にも入った。少年野球もスタートは

小学三年から始めているので、みんなより少し遅いスタートではあった。

 

時代的には断然サッカーより野球であり、今のようなJリーグもなかったのでサッカーは部活の

延長という感じで、野球は将来の夢になるくらいプロ野球という存在が大きいものであった。

 

運動神経としては、まずまずいい方でサッカーをしていたこともあり体力はあった。ただ、身長

が低かったのでパワーがなかった。

野球を始めて1年くらいは試合に出ることが出来なかったが、小学五年生になりいきなり試合に

出られるようになった。

今になって思えば完全に親のコネである。少年野球の監督が私の父親の同級生で、学生時代に

同じ野球部に所属していたのである。

単純に親と監督が友達という理由で試合に出場していたのである。

しかし、五年で試合出場を経験してホームランを打つなど実力もついていた。私の母親は応援熱心

でたまに打つだけでも大騒ぎするので監督へのアピールにもなって試合にはレギュラーとして

出場するようになっていた。

 

少年野球は日曜日に近くの工場の野球グランドを借りて朝6時から行っていた。

「六時　工場　弁当持ち」というのがいつもの連絡である。当時は携帯電話が無かったため、

チームのメンバーには連絡網があり雨天中止の連絡等を行っていた。

 

当時は練習が楽しくてしょうが無かったが、今親の年齢になって日曜日を朝から弁当持たせるという

のが大変なことに築いた。試合の日は両親はいつも応援に駆けつけてくれたので、子供のために

休日使ってくれていたことに感謝をしたい。

 

そんな中、平日では小学校のサッカー部に所属をしていた。週末のサッカースクールは辞めたが

平日は学校の部活をしていた。小学校では野球部がなかったため、他に出来ることは経験していた

サッカーという選択肢しかなかった。

そしてサッカーも小学五年生の時に試合に出場し活躍をしたため、市長杯大会のMVPをとることが

できた。サイドバックではあったが、攻撃的にしていたところが評価されたようだ。

 

しかし、小学六年生になる前に学校の先生から呼び出しが有り

「少年野球かサッカーの部活どちらかに選べ、これから大会で日曜日でかぶる可能性があるから」

だった。

 

当時のサッカー部のレギュラー11名中の5名が少年野球との掛け持ちをしていた。

回答にはそれほど時間はかからず5名全員が野球を選んだ。当時はこの選択が当たり前だった。

 

 

 

 

中学での挫折

中学生になり野球部に入部した。少年野球のチームメイトはもちろんのこと、競合だったチームから

もメンバーが合流した。

 

私は少年野球では2番ショートを守っていた。身長があまり大きくなかったことも有り、打順や守備は

身長はあまり関係ないポジションとなっていた。

中学に入学した頃、ちょうど中日ドラゴンズでは立浪選手がドラフト1位で入団して1年目からレギュラー

として活躍をし、星野監督の鉄拳制裁で優勝をしたこともあり愛知県全体が野球で盛り上がっていた。

身体の小さい立浪選手は私と同じ2番ショートということもあり大ファンになった。

 

雑誌のベースボールマガジンの特集であった、立浪和義をみてショートの守備のコマ送り写真を何度も

みて、足の運びをまねしたものである。

グローブも当時、立浪選手がしていたSSKを購入した。

とにかく当時の立浪選手は私の中では憧れの存在で有り、アイドル的に輝いていた。もちろん女性か

らの人気もあったが、選手としてのセンスに惚れていた。

 

しかし、私が中学二年の時に遠投をやり過ぎてしまい、肘を壊してしまったのである。ピッチャーで

はないが、ショートでは送球が重要なためレギュラーでは出ることが出来なくなった。

結局、三年生が終わるまでレギュラーはとれなかった。

 

 

高校野球をしないで後悔

高校は地元の進学校に入学した。もちろん勉強で大学に行くつもりだったので、野球に打ち込む事は

少しためらいがあった。

中学時代の仲間からは、肘が治ったし、硬式は身体が小さくでも芯で打てば飛ぶし向いているから

一緒にまたやろうという誘いももらっていた。

悩みに悩んだ末に入った部活はバトミントン部だった。

 

正直、硬式野球が怖かったことがある。軟式のゴムボールと違い硬式は堅いのであたったら痛いので

気が引けてしまったのである。あと、坊主にするのにも抵抗があった。

結果として選んだバトミントン部の理由は単純で男女比で女性比率がテニスよりも多く一番だった

からである。

そして高校2年になるときに日本ではJリーグが開幕した。空前のサッカーブームがきたのである。

これまで野球部が一番モテていたのに、いきなりサッカー部が異常にモテ始めた。

 

野球の坊主などがダサいイメージがつくほど日本中がサッカー一色になっていたのである。

この状況をバトミントン部で見ながら野球しなかった事を正解だとも思った。

そして高校三年生になり野球部は最後の夏の大会の予選をしていた。野球部には友達が沢山いたこと

もあり、最後の夏くらいはと思い球場に応援に行った。

学校からも女性陣が沢山応援に駆けつけていた。

 

試合は惜しくも負けてしまったが、私は試合で負けた悔しさよりも、高校で野球をしなかった後悔

の念にかられていた。

 

純粋に甲子園を目指して毎日毎日練習をして、サッカー部がチヤホヤされているのを横目に野球を

続けることが一番カッコ良かったと友達の試合をみて感動したのである。

 

高校に入った時、母親からも

「私の夢はあなたの野球の試合を応援することだがら野球部に入ってください」と言われたにも

関わらず、裏切ってバトミントン部に入ったことを後悔した。

母親は少年野球であれだけ騒いで応援してくれて、中学時代はケガのため少しの出場だったから

    có ý nhận ra rằng chồng đã tát mình mạnh đến mức ba mẹ.
